Chainsaw tension is extremely important for safe and effective use of a chainsaw. This how-to will describe exactly how to tighten the tension of a Prokut chain and list which tools are needed to perform this task.
In order to have a chainsaw operating well and safely, chainsaw tension is very important. If your chain is hanging low and is sitting away from the bar, you are due for a tightening.
Before adjusting the tension of the chain, we need to make sure that the bar is loose. On the side of your chainsaw, you should see two nuts and a tensioning screw. Firstly, use a combination bar spanner to loosen the nuts to allow you to move the bar up and down. This means when we use the tensioning screw, the bar will move forward to tighten the chain and backwards to loosen it.
Start by holding up the bar once it’s been loosened, and using a combination screw, turn it clockwise and tighten it until the chain comes up and meets the bar. Then, tighten the nuts again to keep the bar in place.
After you’ve tightened the chain, you want to run the chain forward to test that it is working smoothly and is free from any debris. Always use your bar spanner to do this. Hold the chainsaw firmly, place the spanner on the chain and slowly push it away from yourself. The chain should rotate around the bar properly and not give any resistance. If it is still too loose, you can repeat the steps to tighten it a bit more. Don’t over tighten the chain, a firm amount of pressure will do the trick.
