Over time bar and chain on a chainsaw will wear and need to be replaced. Replacing the bar is essential to ensure safe and efficient use. We're here to help you learn the process of disassembling and reassembling one of our chainsaw bars.
Firstly, start by taking the bar nuts off. Once both are removed and you have ensured the chain brake is off, you can remove the side cover. After this, it can be helpful to tip the saw on its side to slide the bar forward and take the chain loose. Then, remove the unwanted bar and the chain from the chainsaw.
Take your new bar and check that the sprocket is greased by pumping some grease into the front and turning it a few times. Then set the new bar onto the saw.
Now, check the chain is in the right direction. We want the cutting teeth to face away on the top and face towards us at the bottom, rotating clockwise. Place the chain over the clutch assembly, ensuring that it's locked into the drive sprocket, and reach up for the nose and pull the chain over and back down the bar, slotting the drive links into the bar channel.
Wind the bar tensioner screw back a couple of times, as it helps with locating the bar, and put the cover back in place, pushing down firmly. Add your bar nuts back in and tighten.
After adding on your new bar, you may notice the chain is loose. Pull down on the bottom firmly and stretch out any kinks. Take your chain tensioner and turn it clockwise to tighten the chain to come up and meet the bar. Using your chain tensioner, run the chain around a few times to stretch it out and pull slack out. You may need to do this a few times to get it to the right tension.
